The geotrupine genera Odontotrypes Fairmaire, 1887 and Phelotrupes Jekel, 1866 are revised. Chromogeotrupes Bovo et Zunino, 1983, Eogeotrupes Bovo et Zunino, 1983 and Sinogeotrupes Bovo et Zunino, 1983 are classified as subgenera of the genus Phelotrupes. Within the genus Odontotrypes three species groups are distinguished. Forty-two new species of both genera are described. New synonymies, combinations and statuses are established, type designations are provided. Keys to species of genera under study are added. Parameres of the species are figured, colour habitus photographs and photographs of wings are given. Some aspects of distribution and dispersal are briefly discussed.
